Abdirahman Kahin, owner of Afro Deli & Grill, was named National Small Business Person of the Year by President Biden and Vice President Harris. Kahin, originally from Djibouti, operates four Afro Deli locations in the Twin Cities, serving African cuisine.

During the pandemic, his restaurants stayed open and provided free meals to the elderly and disabled in the East African immigrant community. Second gentleman Douglas Emhoff and Isabella Casillas Guzman from the Small Business Administration visited his St. Paul restaurant to honor him during National Small Business Week. Kahin’s commitment to the community drives his success, and he plans to expand his business with their support.

Afro Deli owner Abdirahman Kahin, who was named Minnesota Small Business Person of the Year 2023, works the cash register at one of his restaurants on March 17.
