Minnesota Institute of Horn of Africa Studies hosts high profile events focused the Horn of Africa region and Horn of Africa diaspora communities.  We conducted high level meetings and events that were streamed across media platforms. The speakers include an impressive array of policymakers and instrumental figures from both the US and the Horn of Africa region, including think tank leaders, community leaders, government officers, educators, and political analysts. These are individuals who have enormous influence on the socio-cultural landscape of the US and understand the important connections to the Horn of Africa region. MNIHAS’ events allow these world-renowned experts to share their knowledge and insights with the people of Minnesota.

MNIHAS events will serve as a catalyst for positive change in our communities, a platform for discussing issues and finding creative solutions. The Institute will also plan and organize events, including an ongoing series of annual events.

The type of events that the Institute will host are similar to those hosted by well-known research institutions and think-tanks. The events are committed to providing crucial information that will education the community and positively influence policies and issues in the Horn of Africa and Minnesota. These educational events include the following

  1. Conferences: The institute will organize conferences on various topics related to the Horn of Africa region and the Horn of Africa diaspora, bringing together scholars, researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to share their research and insights.
  2. Workshops: The institute will hold workshops focused on specific research methods, techniques, or tools that are relevant to the study of the Horn of Africa region and Horn of Africa diaspora. The workshops will also provide professionals from around the world to develop leadership skills and advance their careers.
  3. Lectures: The institute invites scholars or experts to deliver lectures on topics related to the Horn of Africa, which could be open to the public or for specific audiences.
  4. Seminars: The institute will organize seminars on specific research topics or themes related to the Horn of Africa, where participants can present and discuss their research in a more informal setting.
