Inclusive Hiring Event: Opportunities with the U.S. Department of State
Minnesota is home to a significant population with origins in the Horn of Africa region, which includes Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, Kenya, Sudan, and South Sudan. This community has contributed significantly to the state’s cultural, economic, and social fabric. Many members have established businesses, created community organizations, serve in the government, and contributed to the State’s diverse workforce.
The Minnesota Institute of Horn of Africa Studies (MNIHAS) is hosting an inclusive career event for the opportunities available in the U.S. Department of State including careers in both civil and diplomatic roles, fellowships and internship opportunities.
Susan Falatko, U.S. Department of State, Midwest Diplomat in residence will make a presentation on careers, internships, and fellowship opportunities in the U.S. Department of State. The participants will have the opportunity to ask questions.
Other guests include an impressive array of community leaders, educators, and student associations to discuss the importance of joining government agencies and helping our communities.
In addition, Minneapolis Police Department Chief Brian O’Hara will present a few remarks on the topic of importance of the community and police working together and inclusive hiring practices of the Minneapolis Police Department.
MNIHAS is encouraging our youth and professionals to join the event and learn about the opportunities available in the U.S. Department of State as well as other federal and local career opportunities.
“Our Secretary of State has noted that the only way to effectively address these problems is to build a department that looks like America. We believe that the diverse workforce is a national security asset. And when we draw upon this diversity, our foreign policies become stronger, smarter, and more creative”. Gina Abercrombie-Winstanley, U.S. Department of State, Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer.
